Starstrike playtest 5

After the vehicle rules and the points system were modified, I wanted to try an all vehicle engagement. Prefering mecha to tanks, I set up two teams of mechs in a forested area.

Bazooka trooper 1 unit

Tan Mecha:

Sa 6
Crew
Tr 5
Di 6
Autocannon
Power-gauntlet
131 points/unit

Both sides fairly equal( Green 651 Tan 655), the stage was set for a battle:

The two forces line up to face each other.

The first round saw some movement and a scattered shot or two, but to little effect.

First blood went to the green mecha, when a blast of autocannon fire took out the rightmost tan mecha. Not only did it go down, it exploded in a brilliant blast, hitting it's comrade. In a horrible turn of luck the second mecha gets wrecked by the explosion as well!

Return-fire skids of the hull of a green mecha.

Start of turn 3.

Focusing his attack on the agressor, the tan mecha gets hit by returning auto-cannon fire, knocking off some of the hull.

With another brilliant explosion, the green support mecha blows up. Thankfully his squadmate is far enough away to stay clear.

Start of turn 4

Sneaking around the perimiter, one of the tan mecha's draw a bead on the green mecha. A burst later the opposing mech is immobilized, its legs irreparably damaged.

On the right side of the battlefield the team of green mechs keep firing on the tan mecha in the forest across the field, knocking off parts of it's hull.

In what prooved to be a foolish manouver, the bazooka mech zoomed forward to get into assault range. Instead, the reaction-fire of his enemy manages to not only hit, but blow him to pieces!

Over on the left side, the immobilized mecha's number was up, the fire from two enemies finally putting him down.

Start of turn 5

Swinging around the bushes to fire on another enemy, the tan mecha takes some incoming fire, blowing him to pieces.

Start of turn 6, the last turn.

Hoping to force a decisive blow, one green mecha storms into close combat..

..But he is bested by the heavier opponents blows.

The second tan mecha charges into the forest, hoping to take the last green mech by surprise. He is not fast enough though, as he enters combat he is quickly beaten down, his mech wrecked.

At the end of the day, 1 mecha remain on each side.

A draw!

The amended vehicle rules felt better than before, now vehicle combat matches the deadliness of the infantry. The points system feels about right, no force felt superior to the other.

My sculpting of 6mm models continue, but soon I will start painting again. I have a fantasy AAR with the dwarfs to share in the coming days as well. Soon I hope to be back to my regular level of activity!

Til next time.
